Hoewel Augias al een half jaar niet meer streamde, had Nokia het station keurig laten staan in z’n radiokanalen-overzicht. Maar dat kan niet zo blijven, natuurlijk.

Radio Augias is niet langer actief, was de kop boven een e-mail van Radionomy:
Hallo,
Op 15 augustus 2010 had radiostation Radio Augias gemiddeld 81 luisteruren per dag. Dat is minder dan volgens onze Algemene Voorwaarden vereist is, namelijk 130 uur per dag.
Tien dagen geleden hebben we je gevraagd of je deze radio actief wilt houden. Omdat je dat niet hebt aangegeven is je radio Radio Augias verwijderd van onze servers. De oorzaak hiervan heeft te maken met de afspraken die Radionomy heeft gemaakt met belangenorganisaties van audiomateriaal.
We hopen dat je plezier hebt gehad met je radio en je bent van harte welkom om het opnieuw te proberen op het platform van Radionomy.

I enjoyed your final broadcast today. I am hopeful that someday you will be back on the internet with Radio Augias radio. Prompted by your e-mail salutation, I was 19 in 1977 and the music you played typified my interests during that time period along with the genre of the times. I also especially enjoyed listening to the European rock music that I had never heard before (very good).
My wife Janice and my mother will be traveling to Europe on September 3rd for a 18 day trip to eight countries. Arriving in London, England, they will also be staying in Amsterdam, Holland where they will enjoy a canal cruise, see Dam Square, mint Tower and drive via Arnhem onto Oberammergau, The Passion Play.
I am not on Facebook or Twitter, however I am on Youtube, so I have enclosed the link so you could put my name with my face and voice as you will see me outside my classroom door of room 525. Thanks so much for taking the time to write back Rob. I was intrigued by your dilemma and I really appreciate the time you took to explain all the ins and outs of the situation.
I found Augias on the iTunes application’s list of internet radio stations. I was born in 1970 and I’m curious about all the music that was in the background for my first ten years of life.
I grew up in Scotland, but am currently listening to your station in my apartment in Battery Park City, on the south west corner of Manhattan.
I’m streaming from my laptop through my Teac amp and Polk Audio bookcase speakers and the station sounds fantastic. A wonderful antidote to the over-produced pop that rules the airwaves these days.
I run a small TV promo agency and production company. If you decide to start up again, let me know and at the very least I can pimp you out on my Facebook page!!

De webstream van Radio Augias via Radionomy was uiteraard wereldwijd te horen, en soms kwamen er dan ook reacties van ver weg. Augias omschreef zichzelf als ‘college radio, 1970s style’.

De Augias webstream!
Radio Augias – dat was vooral veel muziek.
Een idiosyncratische mix, samengesteld uit de voorkeuren van Rob, Aart, Tejo, Bart, Arthur, Elke, Coen, en al die anderen die het leuk vonden om te luisteren.
In de podcasts, die gemiddeld vijf minuten duren, krijg je geen goede indruk van het gevarieerde muzikale behang dat Augias was. Maar nu is er:

Hoor nu zelf welke muziek Augias draaide, en wat we zouden draaien als we vandaag nog bestonden. Er zit af en toe een commercial tussen, okee, maar: geen jingles, geen deejay, alleen Augias-muziek. Een mix van de jaren ‘zeventig, gepeperd met muziek van daarna. Geniet.

Radio Augias: wat was dat?
In 2005 begon ik met de Augias Radio-podcast. We waren daarmee één van de eerste Nederlandse podcast-makers. En we zijn er nog steeds. Bij wijze van introductie schreef ik in 2005 het volgende:
De Augias-podcast duurt maximaal vijf minuten. Voorafgegaan door drie headlines van onbekend wereldnieuws hoor je het Ding van de dag; dat is bijvoorbeeld muziek, of een stukje archiefopname, of een actuele mini-reportage. Er is regelmatig aandacht voor de radiogeschiedenis, te land en ter zee. Abonneer je met de Augias79-RSS-knop rechts hiernaast.

Waarom doe ik dit? Na het einde van het studentenkabelstation Radio Augias in Utrecht, eind 1979, heb ik veel geluidsmateriaal bewaard en bijverzameld. Ik vind het leuk om daar audio-itempjes mee te knutselen en die aan de wereld te presenteren. Ja, dat is een afwijking. En die neiging vertoont geen neiging om te verdwijnen.
Voor mij is podcasting (podzenden?) een vorm van eigenzinnige vrije radio – buiten de gevestigde orde om, voor mensen die nog kunnen – en willen – luisteren. Veel plezier ermee.

Dat schreef ik in 2005. De wekelijkse podcast heb ik een jaar lang volgehouden. Daarna kwam, en komt, er op onregelmatige tijden weer een podcast uit, als ik er zin in had of heb. Later zijn er ook nog webstreams geweest waar de muziek en vormgeving van Radio Augias te horen was. Over dat alles lees je in dit weblog, augiasradio.wordpress.com.
Voorheen was ons adres augias.web-log.nl wat niet meer bestaat; de RSS-feed en de bestanden werden gehost op augias.nu, dat nu ook niet meer bestaat. Het materiaal stond lange tijd op een andere site bij BlueYellow, maar die site bestaat niet meer; de links zijn (hopelijk allemaal) aangepast, de audio in de podcasts niet .
